Buying a radio controlled helicopter

People usually use a radio controlled helicopter for recreation and entertainment purposes. They can also be used for specialized purposes like aerial photography, remote inspection or policing and filming. These Radio controlled helicopters can be specifically made in accordance with their specialized purposes as well.

What is a Radio Controlled Helicopter?

A radio controlled helicopter is able to perform impressive moves which are essentially what attracts a lot of people towards them as a means of entertainment or as a past time for adults and kids alike to take it as a part of their hobby in the first place. In fact there is a wide fan base among radio controlled helicopters enthusiasts and they often gather in events and even hold contests to test out their flying and maneuvering skills.

Unlike other vehicles,  a radio controlled helicopter can do more than the usual turns, jumps and accelerate. They can also fly in all directions, hover and do tricks. With a little patience you will be able to learn how to do these things and you can find that you will be flying your remote controlled helicopter like a pro. Because they move like the real thing, flying these radio controlled helicopters can be very satisfying.

It takes some time though to learn all these skills. There are some things that you should master as well. Unlike land based remote controlled vehicles that you can easily stop in your tracks you have to learn to let the radio controlled helicopter hover on the ground when it is not in flight or else they will crash and this can cause damage in your helicopter. While all models have their own variations and may have their own learning curves you will find that there are some radio controlled helicopters that are best for beginners while there are some that should only be flown by those who have a certain amount of experience.

Buying a Radio Controlled Helicopter

Before you get your own radio controlled helicopter there are some things that you should take into consideration. Do you like to build things or do your love to tinker around with small parts? If not then you should stick to models that are already assembled when you purchase them.

As a beginner, a good model to start with is the electric models that are lightweight since they are the easiest to learn. They are also generally easier to control compared to the gas powered models. The electric models are also quieter. The gas powered radio controlled helicopters are capable of more complex moves while in flight. But they are better left to the experts.

Do not forget that you will need a radio transmitter. Radio controlled helicopter transmitters are different from other radio controlled units in the sense that they require a minimum of 6 channels in the remote control. Make sure that you buy a radio that is easy to learn with and something that you can use in the future. Do not choose the most complicated model first. A transmitter that has too many features will take a longer time for you to master as a beginner.
